Gadget Recycling Prices Advice?

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice regarding my gadget recycling website.

Basically I started a website last December - Gadget Mill as a personal hobby where I aim to buy gadgets at 'great prices' - well in comparison to most recycling websites if not all - as I've noticed many people getting robbed in living daylight with the prices most of my competitors offer such as ahem-magpie and others. I unfortunately have been a victim to the silly prices offered too hence making the website.

I started off quite well and got a lot of goodies for myself and my friends (mostly iPods) however very recently I have dropped quite a lot of traffic and was wondering what I could do to achieve more traffic? I have tweaked the prices a lot - and it seems that this might not be the issue after all - but maybe I'm wrong.

Can anyone figure out what I can do to get back up and running? I am also open to suggestions as I want to make the website as helpful as possible for the community.

An advice would be greatly appreciated! :D

(Please note I am not a company just an individual - gadget lover)

First you have to find out where the traffic was coming from and why it stopped.

I would guess it was coming from google and you fell victim to a google update.
  • Sounds plausible to me, I've done some research regarding Google and it might also be the fact that since it was a relatively new website - Google artificially improved the ranking of the website?

Any advice on how to overcome this or the update and gain higher ranking on Google?

You could start by looking at your rivals and do what they are doing, only better.

Look at the sites, and the source code to get ideas.

For example, I googled "recycle gadgets" and the site/page at the top of the results page was all about cashing in your gadgets, very little about recycling gadgets.

That brings up a question, do you want to be known as a recycling site, and attract "green" visitors, or do you want to be known as a site that buys gadgets and attract people who are looking for cash?

I'm sure you could combine both.
