Capquest and 6 yr limitation

Capquest are chasing me for an apparent debt owed to Capital One. I sent the limitation template letter from here on 11th April and today I have recieved a letter from them including statements from Capital One showing the last payment I made was processed on 26th April 2001.
What is my next step? Am I covered by the limitation act? They have said I need to pay and have offered me various options and if I don't contact them by 3rd June they will pass it to their collections dept.

Can anybody advise me please.

They cannot do alot as you are over the 6 year limit.

If you sent the response on the 11th then you were under the 6 year limit albeit by days.

That's what I thought, but is was sent without acknowledging the debt and just asking for proof of the debt,if i had realised how close it was I would have waited. I still don't know what to do next.

Get proper advice from the CAB or similar.

Should I ask for a copy of the signed agreement?

How about (shock, horror) paying the debt. Just because you may have exceeded the 6 year timescale doesn't mean you don't still owe the money, just that they can't enforce you to pay it via the courts.
