Help!! Uni/student loan
I studied at Doncaster University centre from September 2009-december 2009. I then left informing my college tutor. I have since found I have being charged for the full years tuition fee. After speaking to the student loans company, the told me the university should have informed them of me leaving, the university accepted payments from them in the February and may even though I was no longer there. The student loans company say the college need to refund this. When I left the tutor I made aware told me that as I was leaving before the cut of date in January I would not be charged. I have spoken to someone in the finance dept at the university and to be honest they are no help, she just said I cannot get a refund as it was to late and It was my choice to leave. Can someone please direct me to what I should do??? any help is greatly appreciated.

I think rather than phoning you need to write to the university and set out why you believe you are due a refund (or rather the SLC is). Having said that, it sounds as if you dropped out having only spoken to your tutor, you probably needed to withdraw formally (in writing) so they knew to cancel your fees and your student membership for the remainder of the year. It's likely you only dropped off the systems when you failed to register for the next academic year.
In brief, I think this is a lesson hard learned that formal contracts can only be rescinded in writing and following terms and conditions. That's the adult way of dealing with things.I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.
