I just presumed they would email the information, but they came round and left a card as I was out

Have they been to anyone else?

An elderly chap phoned me last night from them and said I had entered a comp and I had ticked I was interested in saving for childs future, I told him I'd changed my mind, but I was surprised within a day there were calling from my entry.

I had a phone call from them yesterday. The salesman tried every angle and wasn't keen on 'no'.

Have just received a very nasty salesmen call from this comp and wouldn't take no for an answer. He got so angry at me when I said I wasn't interested and I was almost in tears :(

He didn't want to give me more information he seemed only interested in taking my money.

These people are hideous. They conned my DH into "advertising" (he's a self-employed handyman) in a magazine they said would be distributed locally, with profits going to a children's charity. It transpired there is a magazine which may or may not be sent to advertisers but nobody else. They continue to phone occasionally and can be horribly abusive. Just vile.

    Steer clear.

I was a little wary of entering this comp as I know life assurance salesmen can be persistent, but as it's a good prize I decided to enter it anyway. Hoping this isn't tempting fate, but thankfully I haven't had any contact from them yet.

If the salesmen calling are rude or pushy then I suggest complaining to the head office. If a salesman won't take a polite 'no' as an answer and finish the call then they are making a nuisance of themselves.

Details of how to make a complaint are here. If they simply fob you off, escalate it it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. If they start seeing a stream of complaints they will dig further.

I used to work for a life assurance company and worked quite closely with the complaints dept. It is standard practice in life & pensions industry complaints to award compensation for 'distress and inconvenience' so it may be worth a punt - this will probably blow any chances of winning their comp, but you may get a few £s out of it.

Where possible, make a note of the salesman's name and record the details of date/time etc. Put all this in an email to the complaints people and then explain how he was rude/pushy etc and has caused you upset, stress, anxiety and inconvenience etc.
  • I had someone call and he said he water to arrange a meeting! I said I didn't realise it wasn't like that and said I wasn't interested. I hope they don't turn up at my door.
