tesco temp job-how likely to be made permanent

Need help from tesco employees!
my son wants to accept an offer from tesco but imp worried as he would be giving up a permanent job elsewhere for a temporary one.

how likely is it that tesco would keep him on if he proves himself?

Or are they known for only employing temps?

thanks

it depends on the reason they are employing temps.

Its very difficult to know and would depend on if they need or could afford to keep them on full time.

Usually they employ temps over the christmas period and if they need the staff for the rest of the year will keep them on.
I got a job there as christmas temp then stayed on full time

Sometimes they might do summer, but they usually rely on students over the summer months.

does he already have a permanant job, and if so, what is the reason he wants to goto tescos instead?

He should talk to them about this they will know if they have budgets for staff in that area after the end of the temp contract. It's a reasonable thing to ask. Explain that he really wants to accept but will need to give up a permanent contract to do so.

Saying that though in general once you are in, at my store if you work hard and are flexible they will be keen to keep you. They nearly always offer any jobs within the store internally advertising them in staff areas before advertising externally. If he would be prepared to work in almost any department, he would almost definitely get a job. How long is the temp contract and which department, how many hours?

  • When i did a temp role we got told that they would do their best to keep up on and that 40% of us would likely be kept on and sent to other departments. No one got kept on, so regardless of what they say where will be no guarantee either way.

Chances will vary dramatically, I would not count on it if I were him. Can he look at transferring elsewhere onto a permanent contract?
