handing in notice when line manager not in office

I need to hand in my notice either tomorrow or friday.
Its a small company. My line manager works from home most of
The week and the MD is out of the country on business.

Do i phone my line manager and email resignation letter?
Or go to the next highest person who is actually in the office??

Confused!

Who do you report to when they are not there?

I would email and phone to explain.

The same happened to me, I handed the letter to the most senior person that was in the office and then phoned my Manager to advise I had resigned and to let them know who I had given the letter to.
