Getting paid

Hello!:j

I'm currently signing up to surveys and the like so that I can earn myself a little bit of income to boost savings. Also plan on selling all my "junk" on eBay.

Problem is I have a joint account with my husband. We have a savings account tagged onto that and we also share a PayPal account.
I don't really want to set up a new account in just my name, however he will see the money I transfer into the savings account and just spend it without thinking and i'm trying to be a little more :money: and save!

I know I'm probably going to have to set up a whole new bank account and savings account and PayPal account in my name, as much as I hate the idea. So what would you guys do? Risk DH spending the money, or set up whole new bank account and savings account?

I'd talk to him about it! It's really unacceptable for him to spend money that you are trying to save. If you explain why you're saving and how important it is to you, then he shouldn't touch it IMHO.

Set up the new account for yourself. SWMBO has her pension paid in to a separate account and helps out with her savings when required. Works well for us as I'm a spender too!

    Hi

Set up a savings account in your name. I've got this one: http://www.ybs.co.uk/savings/online/internetsaver/index.html?int_cmp=sav_online_lcol1_intSav_jun09

Used originally for survey payments but wages are now paid into it.

cte1111 - oh I've tried! Last year we had several milestone birthdays so I explained what the money was for.... He transferred it back into the bank and bought some new car wheels

Nigel and GetRealBabe, thanks! Seems like its more "normal" than I thought, will check out that savings account :T

I would go for getting your own.
Paypal is used by a lot of survey sites .
Amazon vouchers are good for present buying too .
OH and I have our own separate accounts for those.
If you have your own bank account , you can link it to your paypal account so you can still transfer money to yourself when you need to but it cant then be accessed by your OH even if it is the same bank you have your joint account with.

I also think that you should set up your own account . It would make things so much easier if you are trying to keep your survey and ebay money separate .

There doesn't seem to be much point in putting it into your joint account if your hubby is just going to spend it " willy nilly " ;) .

I'd set up separate PayPal and savings account.

I would set it up but then you've really answered your own question already, by saying that he spends the money on !!!!.

I would also question why my husband didn't seem to care about what I wanted and instead bought himself something with the money.

Thanks everyone, I have decided to set up a shiny new savings account in my name only! Have explained this to DH and he agreed it was sensible given his spending issues!! :rotfl:

Katykicker, he does care about what I want, he just isn't a saver. He'd rather just pay for stuff there and then out of the current account, whereas I just feel a bit more organised having pots of savings for specific things :D
