Advice please-getting worried

Been looking internally for about 3 mths at different role as boss and I agree I could do wth change. I'm a team secretary and thnking of doing something different though honestly so far nothng has appealed to me. Boss knows I'm unahppy there and that I'm thinking forward too. I only had 1 interview, boss gave hiring manager a good reference but I didn't get as I wasn't too keen on that role.

I feel relationship boss (although not the best most of times) as gotten bit more unstable. Yesterday when I was sat with him to look at his diary for this week there was an email whch flashed at bottom of screen (this happens when you are not in outlook but elsewhere so it flashes preview of sender and subject of emal) and happened to notice it was from this senior secretary who has recently been promoted to a non secretarial postion. In the subject of that email it said 'cv', when i saw that my initial instinct it that surroundng my job but fgured hey the boss has to have back up plan.

fast forward 1hr I pick up boss's phone line as he is in meeting and it was her calling on her mobile (he gets on really well wth her btw whereas I've never lked her and feeling I think is mutual). She asked me to get him to call her so I emailed hm. At that point I was thinking ths seemed bit odd but again ddn't thnk much as I know boss needs to get hs ducks in order.

The final nail on head whch now has me panicking is come 5pm reception calls his offce and I pcked up line, they told me some woman had a meetng wth him, but there was no meetng in his diary! boss was now at my desk and so I asked recepton who person was to inform hm. He said it was fine and to ask reception if she can come up to floor on her own or I have to collect her. Anyway I eneded up collecting her.

So this woman and that ex senior secretary know each other....but why is he interveiwing when I haven't even found a postion internally? Am I potentally going to be fired becuase they have someone now and know that I don't wish to be there? My OH is convinced that's what boss is going to do.

In meantime I got email from internal recruiter who has a job for me whch is PA and I think 'm going to go for it as really cannot waste time plus absolutely hate being where I am.

I've been in ths place for 10yrs so I'd like to think that I am protected, last year my review was just above meets standards whch was positve. Its only since about March decline I've been feeling, depreseed too.

So you decide you want to move on and yet your boss isn't allowed to start looking for your replacement?

As a manager I think its right to start looking but I haven't even moved on yet to a new job with that workng notice so wondered whether what he was doing was normal or underhanded?

ALso, could he dismiss me if I haven't found anything internally?

Wondering what my rights are. At moment I feel what he did is very hush hush as not even in diary. It was only about 2wks back he sad that i shouldn't worry as he wasn't looking to get rd of me!

I'm pretty certain that they can't just sack you if you have been there over 2 years, unless you have done something to warrant it and even then, there would be procedures that need to be followed first.
