Panasonic DMR EX 75 DVD recorder down to £259

Options
This excellent DVD recorder with 160GB hard drive and freeview tuner, is now only £259 in Comet. Its being replaced by the EX-77 sometime in June. If you don't have digital TV perhaps have only analogue cable (so no freeview ever) then you should consider the 75 because the 77 will only have the freeview tuner. I know some web retailers have had it at this price for a while but I would rather buy from store - easier to return. Has anyone seen it cheaper than £259?

I already have this unit and recommend it.

  • Could be missing something but the newer EX 77 model is less than £250 (and in stock) in a number of places

Just about to buy one (or other) of these !! Has anybody got any opinion about whether the DMREX75 or DMREX77 is best ???? Or is it worth paying the extra £40-£50 for the Sony RDRHXD860.

Any advice / experiences gratefully received.

Depends on your circumstances. If you have no use at all for the dual analogue and digital tuner in the 75 get the 77 (which has no analogue tuner). It may have a few improvements over the 75 such as the WSS flag being properly applied when recording to DVD. Don't quote me on that though but they were discussing the units on avforums. Myself, I have a need for an analogue tuner as freeview reception is terrible here and I have analogue cable TV. I decided on the Panasonic over the Sony because the freeview tuner is supposed to be very poor for weak signals on the Sony and because of price.

Checking ASDA website right now they have the 77 for £280 and the 75 for £292.

I don't think so stewie1098 as these DVD recorders do not have Sky tuners in them - only Freeview. You should be able to record input from an external source (i.e. your Sky box) via the Scart connectors but this would not allow you to record one Sky channel while recording another Sky channel. You could record one Sky channel whilst recording a Freeview channel of course.

If you need to record one Sky channel while recording another Sky channel you need Sky+ (see the other threads on digital TV cost cutting for the best way to go about this).

    Hope this helps !!
  • They both seem to be about the same price. As the EX75 is being discontinued and the EX77 has just been released, it seems like the one to go for especially as it has the extra features.

And they are both region free here ->
