GAS oven from Argos don't work

Options
I bought a gas oven from Argos about 2 weeks ago. We paid for an engineer to come and install it.

The first meal we cooked in it took 40 minutes (was meant to take 20) to not cook.. looked inside and noticed no flames. So I turned it back on and it went out again within 2 minutes.

The food was stone cold and it most definitely wasn't cooking. I can only think its the thermostat not working.

I called Argos who said that they will organise for an engineer to come and look at it, we didnt hear anything for a few days so we called up and a lady said that there are no engineers available at the moment so they will contact us when they are.

After another week we decided to call up again to find out what was going on and the lady on the phone practically called my wife a liar as the last lady we spoke to obviously didnt do notes on her screen. Eventually the lady said that again, they are waiting to get an engineer to contact us.

This was last week, now im calling tomorrow myself as its really starting to get frustrating, we have 3 kids and we have had ordered food via the take away for almost 2 weeks now (and microwave meals) and its really starting to annoy us.

Does anyone have any consumer rights acts that I can throw at argos tomorrow when I call them so they can mean I do mean business? Or any advice how I handle this situation onwards?

Thanks

Matt

Tell Argos you are rejecting the thing as not conforming to contract, as allowed under the Sale of Goods Act, and invite them to collect it at your convenience.

Paid Argos' (subcontracted) engineer or something you arranged yourself?

Whoever it was, did they test it before they left?
