I had this problem and found the solution on here - boil it vigorously. Boiling it up worked for me at the weekend - and it was blackberry.

Have tried looking at a couple of links without success.
fancy having a go at making jam in my BM, I have a Morphy Richards Fastbake. Have been given a heap of Rhubarb, so thought it would be a good starting point.
Can anyone help please. I have never made jam before, either manually or in the BM. So needs to be simple, like me.
Thanks in anticpation.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -
Rhubarb doesn't have very much pectin so I would use the juice and zest of one lemon or orange (depending on which you fancy or have in) to each 500gm rhubarb....gently stew fruit in as little water as possible, add equal amount of sugar to fruit, stir constantly until sugar is all melted, bring to rolling boil and boil for about 15 mins, stirring frequently to prevent sticking to base of pot. Test for set by putting spoonful on cold saucer, leave for a minute or so to cool, then push surface of jam....if it wrinkles it is ready. Allow to cool a bit and pot in jars that have been washed and sterilised ....put in oven at about 140c for 10-15 mins. Enjoy your jam!

I've got this breadmaker and have never got jam to set in it - I don't think it can get it hot enough. I've now got a jam pan from freecycle and use that instead,NST September: SFD 17/20, food £62.87/£60, travel £61.55/£40, Outings £39.80/£100, Allotment £7.17/£30 Other: £42.32, Meditation ?/30.

Thanks for that, I will have a go at it in the breadmaker first, but got carried away with other things today. Have frozen most of the rhubarb, had almost 2 kgs. Made a rhubarb and custard cake, looks scrummy, but had a heavy dinner so will have to wait to try.
Wasn't sure about the pectin, so thanks for the tip.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -

My BM book says that if the jam hasn't set at first go, you can put it onto the extra bake setting for a further 30 minutes. Will give it a go next weekend.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -
There is a previous jam in the breadmaker thread which may help
Alternatively the MR website has all the manuals with instructions specific to your BM - this one, page 14 is for the fastbake, or check this page if that isn't your model
Ill merge this later - let us know how you go
