How to soften up a cheap veil?

I bought my veil from ebay, following recommendations on various forums for a certain seller.

Whilst I'm happy with the colour, comb and length/shape of the veil, the tulle seems pretty stiff.

Any ideas as to how I can soften it up? I have seen people mentioning hand washing it in fabric softener and water then rinsing and hanging up to dry but my veil is huge (I'm 6ft tall and marrying in a big church so went halfway between chapel and cathedral length...oops, couldn't help myself:o )

Thanks :)

No idea, sorry :( just don't do what I did and have a complete freak out the week before the wedding, decide that the cheap eBay veil was not good enough and go and buy a £90 one from the wedding shop that very unwise people pointed out was virtually the same as the cheap one! After the event I can see they were right and there was nothing wrong with the cheap one but boy did the red mist descend! That was my ONLY bridezilla moment, I swear! :rotfl:

Hope you get your veil sorted and have a fab day :)

Try steaming it. See if you can borrow or you may have a hand held steamer with the right attachment.

Steam iron, or just hang in the bathroom. My Daugthers veil was an ebay bargain but it looked like a piece of hard rag when it came. I carefully steamed it then hung it up. (use a trouser hanger the ones with the clippy things) clip the comb to it. Then a few days before the wedding hang it in the bathroom, jobs a good un x

Thankyou everyone! I do not have a steamer but I may be able to borrow one if I put the word out :) I'll also try hanging it in the bathroom. I'll post back once I've tried these things for future brides who might search this.

Daisiegg, love the bridezilla moment ;)

Hi Compbunny...can you advice on the seller you bought your veil from please? I have been looking around ebay but am scared of buying something that won't look good

Hi Steph, I haven't steamed my veil yet but I'll PM you some photos of it so you can decide for yourself. I am considering buying! The shape of the top tier is too "blunt" somehow for my dress, although I guess once its been steamed (still haven't found someone I can borrow a steamer off!) this might be better. The seller was venus_veils on ebay. xx

If you have an iron, or a kettle, (and the nerve) you have a steamer.
Don't hang onto the Must Have The Right Gear idea - it's an expensive way to delay.

If your nerve is really shot, buy a second veil from the same supplier, treat the first, & if it all goes vilely wrong, you still have a (stiff) veil.

If it works, you return the brand new & unused 2nd veil to the vendor with an apology for your wedding-induced altzheimers.

This probably sounds like the most ridiculous question ever, but can you pretty please tell me in idiot terms how I use a kettle or iron to steam the veil? I'm being completely serious. :o
