OH's milestone birthday - help please!

As the title suggests, OH hits FIVE OH in a few weeks and I'm mulling over what to give him. I want it to be something he can keep for the years to come and also get some regular use out of.

I'm considering either a watch or a gold fountain pen that I can get engraved (he will get good use from both). Trouble is I don't know what brands to go for that are quality yet not pretentious or too blingy. He's quiet sporty and also a bit of a gadget freak. E.g. I gave him a Fitbit for Xmas and he loves it!

My budget is around £500 - any suggestions?
