Cahoot have changed my name!

I got a letter today from Cahoot with my account number on but someone else's name. My fiance saw it and didn't realise it was for me so he called Cahoot and told them there was no-one of that name at our home. Now here's the thing. The lady on the phone quite happily discussed my account under this other name with my fiance.
Have they breached confidentiality laws? And is it true that this would leave the debt void? I've never experienced this before, and without being sure of the legalities I don't want to go in all guns blazing! I want the facts first so I can put in a real argument.
Please help!!

I'm no expert, but I would think that although they shouldn't be discussing the debt with a third party, this wouldn't void the debt in any way.0

Hi,
A large company like Cahoot should have a call recording facility.
The first thing I would do is to call them up and ask to speak to a senior manager. At this stage ask them to listen to the call and advise that it is a breach of the data protection act. You require that they listen to this and give you an explaination (and maybe some compensation/goodwill gesture) and get back to you within 24 hours. Should they not do this put the complaint in writing to the ''big boss'' mark it for the attention of the one of the directors. This soon gets peoples !!!!!! into gear believe me!!!! If there is still no response after this you can then take it to the financial ombudsman.
I work in finance and I know that we take this very seriously and shouldn't ignore it. (0 -

Hope this helps Laura
