First Time Buyer - I have a poor credit rating, my partner doesn't..help!

Hi,
Me and my partner are looking to get a mortgage together. Unfortunatly I have a poor credit history. I've not had any adverse payments for a couple of years now but it's still really poor. I'm in stable job with an alright job but obviously my credit rating is a huge issue.
On the other hand, my partner has a good job, good wage and his credit rating is fine. Where do we stand on getting a mortgage together? We're first time buyers and I'm worried we will never be able to get a place together (or at least until my debt clears in about 8 years).

You dont say what bad credit (missed/late payments/defaults/CCJs).
You also dont say how much deposit you have or your incomes or how much your hoping to borrow.
