When to instruct solicitor?

Once i have an offer on a place accepted i instruct halifax and pay them the valuation (I'm going with the one buyers report on top of their mortgage val). I was wondering when is best time to instruct solicitor? Basically I don't want to fork out £410 to solicitor as fee until I know for sure mortgage is going ahead and valuation is done.

Instruct solicitor at same time you apply for mortgage. You need solicitor's details to go on mortgage application.
Solicitors will send you instruction form which you complete and send back. Ask them to open a file and do nothing until they hear from you.
When you are happy with mortgage progress, pay solicitor advance to cover search fees.
Instruct them to proceed with searches when you have mortgage offer.I am a mortgage broker.
