Quick question-potatoes

Have only £5 to last till pay day and need potatoes for a couple of my store cupboard recipes (for mash).

Does anyone know if I can enough potatoes to make mash for four people for under £1?

Also needed egg noodles- seem to cost £1 everywhere on mysupermarkt- does anyone know if Aldi does them before I make the trip?

You should easily be able to make enough for 4 people for under £1, however at the moment the packets of old potatoes mostly cost over£1 because they contain enough to last several meals.
Options:- See if you can find a shop that has a deal on old potatoes; Perhaps at the end of the day reduced?
Do you have a Green grocers that sell in smaller amounts?
Buy a large pack and split it, and the cost, with someone else.
Change your menus so that the large pack will do for several meals.
Sorry I don't know if Aldi have Egg Noodles, but they do sell ordinary noodles and for this one occasion you can get away with out using the Egg ones. Do you have a Home Bargains near you? They usually have a good selection of noodles, quite cheaply.
  • Why egg noodles? I use the 12/14p 3 minute ones - bargain.
Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.
  • I just want the plain noodles (like Sharwoods) as they are only made with flour and egg- instant noodles are really unhealthy as made with palm oil even if I throw away the flavour sachet.

Might have to go for something else- a shame as I have loads of leftover bits and bobs that would make a great noodle soup if only I had noodles to go in it!! Potatoes more useful though.
  • If you don't mind the flavour of them you can buy a packet of Mr Mash dried mashed potatoes in Ic*land for £1 and that will give you 4 x packets of mash that EACH serve 4 people. You make it up with boiling water and add in a little butter/marge so it's easy to do. We've used them for ages, definately cheaper than fresh potatoes, hope that's useful.

yes, Aldi does have egg noodles, on the lefthandmost side of the shop, just after the bread products in most Aldi stores. Can't remember the price, however.
