    Just be aware a union is a political organisation and not just about workplace support. Part of your subscriptions will go towards that kind of activity (funding Labour amongst other things).

    If you're ok with that then it's not a problem.

    UNISON members can opt to contribute to the general political fund which is not affiliated to Labour or exempt themselves from political contributions.

    I believe that's the case with all unions, you can 'opt out' of supporting the Labour party.

    As far as I know this is correct, and required by law for any union setting up a political fund.

    It's also worth noting that political funds in unions are not always donated directly to the Labour Party. Someone mentioned PCS earlier in the thread, they have a political fund, but do not under any circumstances donate to political parties (unless policy has changed very recently). Their rules state that as they represent public and civil servants, to donate to a political party would be a conflict of interest.
