Paying twice?

I am currently arranging a mortgage to buy out my sister's half of the property we inherited when our mother died. My broker's offer includes conveyancing fees of £950. At the same time I have received an e-mail from my solicitor quoting a fee of the same amount for "remortgaging and equity transfer". My question is: what's the difference and could I be paying twice for the same thing? There is currently no mortgage on the property and indeed there hasn't been for almost 27 years so I have my doubts about the "remortgage" part.

It's still a remortgage - of an unencumbered property. I presume your broker has merely told you the cost of the legal work for the remortgage and the TofE?

Does he know your solicitor? I often get quotes for people and tell them what the costs will be.
