Can't get accepted

Hello people,

I've had credit cards in the past and have a squeeky clean record, never missed a payment on anything and most of the time I clear the balance. I still have a open Lloyds TSB credit card that I use for emergencies but rarely use it to be honest. I had credit card companies begging me to take out their cards when I lived at home.

Since I took out a mortgage I can't seem to get accepted anywhere for a credit card? The mortgage isn't massive and was some 40k less than what the maximum the building society would lend me (sole applicant). I have about £750 a month after all bills and food is paid for so surely it can't be an affordability thing?

The only reason I'm looking for a new card is that there's a few bits and bobs I'd like to do around my new house and rather than saving up the £1500 or so I'd need, I'd like to buy the stuff on a card and then pay it off over a period of 4-5 months while in the interest free on purchases period.

Is it purely because I have a mortgage? Or because I've had 3 addresses in 2 years maybe? (parents moved then I moved out).

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

Are you on the electoral roll at your new property? Are your credit files still clean and correct? Not being on the ER makes a huge difference.

That could very well be it!!! Thank you!

I'll print the form now and get it sent off!

Yeah my credit file is still clean, only had the mortgage a few months with no missed payments.

How many applications have you made? The more applications made in a short space of time can also be a hindrance.

Only 2. It's just bizzare that I had then hounding me a few months ago and now when I'd like one I'm not having any joy. Think I'll just do things a bit at a time and forget it.

You have took a massive commitment recently, and the companies just want to make sure you can cope with the mortgage first (I was told to wait 6 months at least before applying for anything).

Also the electoral roll will help
