Has anyone done a home weight comparison with fruit bought by weight in a supermarket? I bought applies from Morrison's in order to check a home scale I'd bought. It was hugely out, but in the customer's favour. It was so out that I subsequently bought a 100g scale test weight, and my scale was fine.

    Morrison's though, not at all.

The weight on pre-weighed bags on produce is the minimum weight so you can get a bigger bag for the same price.

All produce that is sold by weight must be sold in metric quantities - grammes and kilogrammes (Kg) and any unit prices must be the price per Kg. If the retailer also want to put to put the price per pound (lb) as well they can - as older people often prefer to know this - but on any signs the price per pound should not be bigger or more prominent than the price per Kg. Selling things only by the pound is illegal. Even large supermarket chains sometimes break these rules – as selling things by the pound make things seem cheaper than they are, because customers are used to seeing the price per Kg.

    Price per pound (lbs) 25p
    Times 2....................50p
    Add 10%...................55p
    Price per kilo..............55p

    And

    Price per kilo..............£1.00
    Deduct 10%...................90p
    Divide by 2.....................45p
    Price per pound (lbs).......45p

If you can't cope with these maths then what they say about the standard of our schools is correct.
The only thing that is constant is change.

I've found that I've done less shopping at Tesco of late; if I look at something and the price is too high or I see a sleight of hand in the packaging/size/unit cost then I don't buy it.

Same here which is why I don't buy a lot from Tescos.
