WHo has made their wedding dress a cocktail dress?

Options
I'm after some help from those who have.

i'm looking at chopping my wedding dress to the knee, taking the beading off the top and replacing with red beads and then 'somehow' swirling flowers around one side to make it into a posh frock.

Can anyone help or should I move to the craft/sewing board - if we have one......

on Ebay I can get some iron on emroidered flowers, which I think would do the job, but not sure.

Then I thought I'd make cushions from the bit I lob off the bottom?

Ideas or any inspiration?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

OMG that sounds like sooooooooooooooooo much fun and the photos look amazing.

I love my dress and go to race-days and cocktail evenings etc so it seems the best thing to do and I get to wear it again :T

Plus at only £100 it makes no difference if I boob it up - I don't own a sewing machine and haven't got a clue about how/what to do.....

Mine was a bit more than that.....although I did get £700 off the full price but then ended up spending on the alterations since I put on weight and had to change the back from button to lace up! It's also too full to wear for things and I have zero skills when it comes to totally changing it myself.

I'm thinking some sensible shots and gradually getting more and more fun, make up getting more outrageous, and then I don't know where after that....forsest streams, floating in the sea, etc etc. I've got someone working on ideas for it. I'm never going to use the dress again so might a aswell do something fun with it and it means that I get to wear t for a THIRD day! Yay!!!

You say about making cushions from the bit you cut off, well how about making one with your names, date of marriage, place of marriage embroidered on or something like that?

Or turn the cut offs into a little evening bag that could then be used with all your other cocktail dresses too?

:D Glad I could be of help!

I come up with all these arts and crafts ideas but with no means of implementing them myself! I get the ideas, but im useless with a needle and thread etc. My Aunty used to be a seamstress though, so I'm like "Aunty Sallyyy, please can you make me another cushion!"

Depending on what kind of bag you'd like. I mean I love those kisslock clasp bags, I wonder if you can buy the frames for them?

ETA: Yes you can, just looked on EBay!

Be careful going in water in your dress, if its a big heavy dress, it will pull you under, a bride got killed doing that.

Thanks mull, I'd have to make some homemade alterations to it before I did that, ie, rip out the netting layers, or what's left of them since the proper alterations (still not worked out why there was so much as it doesn't look like we removed any!). I'll attempt not to do anything too daft with it, in fact I might never actually get around to it at all!
