Ok... so am doing fairly well at the old DFW thing. I am 6 weeks into my money spending diary and have kept to my budget. Haven't bought a magazine or any stupid things in all that time, and am in control of my bank balance at last! :j

But I have had a really bad week this week, which is really frustrating. Firstly, I really had to get a new pair of sensible work shoes cos of all this damn rain we've been having - I bought a pair of lovely trainer type ones in the office sale. So that was £30 gone.

Then yesterday I went for an eye test (using my free D&A eye test voucher) only to be told that working at a computer has damaged my eyesight and I need glasses for close up work! Grrr. Went back today to have a look at them but they were too expensive. So I got my perscription, went up the road to Specsavers and I have just spent £125 on two pairs of designer glasses, frames and lenses included. Now that seems to be to be quite a good deal, but it's still money I'd rather not have spent...

Although, before it would have gone on my credit card. But because of my careful budgeting for the last month and a half, I actually had the spare funds to cover this eventuality. But it's still irritating.

Oh well. At least my new glasses will make me look sexy and intelligent.... :rotfl:

  • Never mind. Your sight is much more important than your debt so best take them.

I had an eye test last weekend. Check with your employer to see if they do contribute towards glasses if you are using your PC during the day. I think by law they have to if you work x% infront of a screen.

That's the most important thing here - you've changed so much you actually had money to pay for the unexpected this time instead of using your cards! It doesn't matter how good your budget is, unexpected spending will always crop up. But when you live within your means, you can deal with the unexpected without breaking the bank. Well done!

Just keep the focus. You're doing so amazingly well, don't fall back into old habits. It's a hard thing to to, completely changing your spending habits. Just don't undo all your good work! If you find yourself slipping a bit, allow yourself some small treats, budget for these. It's much better to ease temptation in this way than to have a huge blowout.

You don't really seem like you need any tips to stop spending, sounds like you've got it mastered! Just keep going.

Glasses will make you look more sophisticated & sexy like Anastascia. Sight is more important tho.

Wow... I can't believe how long it's been since I posted on my own diary..

I've been keeping busy posting on other threads, and haven't been a stranger to this site, but I'm back on my own diary because I can feel myself becoming a bit complacent about money and don't want to start slipping back into old habits.

Am very annoyed atm because, what with one thing and another, I've had to go into my emergency overdraft by about £90 this month  It's so annoying! Luckily I have about £75 of Quidco coming soon, so it should clear most of it, but I'm just annoyed with myself for not working things out better this month. And I've also slowed right down with paying off my c/c. I guess because the end is in sight I'm losing momentum :o

So, I am restarting my spends diary again because, although I don't spend as much as I used to, I can see unneccessary things starting to creep in. And I will post on here as much as possible.

Thanks for your patience, and your continuing support. :D
