Cannot open jpeg's

Yes,as above I can open with Windows picture and fax viewer, irFanview, Adobe Photoshop, and probably others, just taht Nero won't, and out of the ones that are opening I would prefer Nero, but if I can't, then I can't.
Not sure what you mean by, "browse to your browser location", as when right clicking the jpeg then selecting one of the programmes to open, it does so from there.
.
Doesn't seem that the files are corrupt. A chkdisk won't help since the files can be opened successfully with a different application.
To run chkdisk on XP the methods mentioned in the following article can be used: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
I meant browse to your browser location (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox) but you've already proven that the files can be opened successfully.
Do you know if Nero was ever able to open those files affected files successfully? If you've never opened those jpeg's with Nero before it might be something specific to those files that Nero doesn't like. Each image contains image data, there might be some data that Nero can't interpret correctly.
For example, using Linux and "xdd" the image info is reported as being a PNG file:
0000000: 8950 4e47 0d0a 1a0a 0000 000d 4948 4452 .PNG........IHDR

I think that Irfanview can read image data if the right plugin is installed, I'll need to check on a Windows machine to confirm. This website might be able to display detailed information for images: http://www.fileformat.info/convert/image/identify.htm
You might be able to view a difference between an image that can be successfully opened with Nero and one that can't.0 -

All files could be opened using Nero up until about a week ago, ( I have not installed or removed anything around that time), it does not only affect jpeg's, Nero also will not open any of "My Photos" either.
I di as you suggested in post #3 and now no plugins re Nero.

This is from the official Nero Support FAQ:
http://www.nero.com/eng/support-faq.html and searching for the term "PhotoSnap is not able to open pictures anymore"
PhotoSnap is not able to open pictures anymore or filters and functions are missing.
The functionality of PhotoSnap is implemented in several plugins. Each plugin is a DLL file in the PhotoSnap directory. If some functionality is missing in PhotoSnap, the most likely cause for this are either defective plugins, missing plugins or a faulty plugin registration. Please check if all required files are present:- The following plugin files must be found in the PhotoSnap Directory:
"BasicFilters.dll", "FImgPlg.dll", "PhotoEffects.dll" and "XImgPlg.dll".
After a standard installation of Nero, you will find the PhotoSnap directory under the following path:
"C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero \Nero PhotoSnap"
The exact path may vary depending upon the settings when installing Nero.
The problems you encounter can occur if one or more files are not available. This can be fixed by reinstalling Nero using the Nero CleanTool. - If all of these files are present, then please try to register the plugins again. The first step is to launch Nero PhotoSnap. In PhotoSnap please select "Options" (Hammer icon). Then please click on "Plugins....". Now select "unregister all" and confirm with "yes". Then please close both dialog windows. Now select Options again and select "register plugin".
Now choose the plugin files mentioned above. And open each of these files separately.
If the plugins are not adisplayed, you will find them in the PhotoSnap directory.
Now close and reopen PhotoSnap.
