Cannot open jpeg's

I have several jpeg’s on my computer and up until now have opened them without problems, “Nero PhotoSnap, 1.0.0.12” appears to be the default for opening but I now get a window stating “Nero PhotoSnap, jpeg could not be opened”, there are other details but these only relate to where the jpeg is saved, i.e. desktop.

Any ideas what could be amiss?

    What about

    Right click on the picture(s)

    Open with

Choose windows picture / fax viewer or whatever it is called (cannot remember its full name)

Does that work? If so you can default it to always open with that then.

Were you using Nero for a specific reason?

Sounds like it could be a snap-in problem, this might work:

Open PhotoSnap, in the menu at the top select File, then select Configure Plug-ins...Highlight the location of the Snap-Ins for example: C:\Program files\Nero...then select Unregister All that will unregister the plug-ins. Close Photosnap Viewer then re-open and it should load the plug-ins, you should then be able to open your images.

Personally, I prefer IrfanView for images, it's free and can view many types of files: http://www.irfanview.com/

Had tried that earlier and nothing happened, just tried again and it has opened the jpeg's.

No reason for Nero, it just seemed to happen, it does seem to be a "cleaner open though.

How would I make it default?

Can't find Nero, it does not appear to be in "All Programs".

OK found it, unregistered all, but still say cannot open jepg.

Another vote for Irfanview, my photo viewer of choice. :)

Right click > open with > choose default program

Should get some programs dependent on what you have on your machine.

There is a little tick box that you can put a tick in to default them to that.

I have actually found out how to do it, although am puzzled as to how some still come up with "can't open jpeg".

Are you able to open the affected jpeg's with another application, a browser should work. If you right click and select open with and then browse to your browser location does that work?
I'm wondering if the affected jpeg's are somehow corrupt.

I've seen some issues with some files becoming corrupt when the hard drive has bad sectors. Have you run a chkdisk on the hard drive? Might be worth a shot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2641432

Yes,as above I can open with Windows picture and fax viewer, irFanview, Adobe Photoshop, and probably others, just taht Nero won't, and out of the ones that are opening I would prefer Nero, but if I can't, then I can't.

Not sure what you mean by, "browse to your browser location", as when right clicking the jpeg then selecting one of the programmes to open, it does so from there.

That link takes me to Windows7, I am on XP, when clicking to XP I cannot find "chkdisk" anywhere.
