Anyone know of a really quiet vacuum cleaner

I'm on the hunt for a new vacuum cleaner to replace my ageing Vax which should have been sold with a pair of industrial strength ear muffs! Would really appreciate any recommendations - my main requirement is that it's quiet (would like to be able to hoover without my baby up) - but at the same time need one that's really good at picking up dog hair from the carpet... Would have preferred a bagless one but from everything I've read they seem to be noisier. Max budget £150.

  • I've just bought a Miele S5261 Cat & Dog (after a lot of research). It is AMAZING and it has a special quiet mode which really is very quiet. It does take bags, but from one evening of use after previously having bagless, I'm a total convert.

    I bought mine here

you can also get Topcashback and there is currently a voucher code for an extra £10 off too.

One thing I will say though: When you use the crevice tool (especially on full power) it is deafening! The normal head is very quiet though, I think, especially on quiet mode.
  • Love my Henry vacuum :) its light, quiet and efficient :) less than £100 from costco
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation ;)

I bought a dyson dc35 which is portable, with lots of different attachments. It is powerful but not that noisy. My little boy hated the sound of my vac cleaner and I had similar problem when he was a baby. I love it, and he likes it too, he likes to help me do the vacuuming. Not that cheap but worth the investment.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been searching on the internet and Miele and Henry are names that come up again and again as being really quiet. Just wish the Miele bags weren't so expensive. The Dyson dc35 looks great too - but also just too expensive at the moment.

Henry really seems to get rave reviews and is one I'd been thinking about. The only thing that worries me is he gets very mixed reviews when it comes to picking up dog hair. Does anyone have any experience with this?
  • I bought a box of Miele bags (4 bags plus two filters) from an Ebay seller (new) for around £8. I didn't think this was too bad, but then I'm not sure how long each bag will last! I do know the Cat & Dog model uses the slightly larger version of Miele's bags, which factored in my choice as I assume it means it will hold more and need changing less frequently.

You can also get non-branded versions for half the price, but I imagine this would invalidate any kind of warranty.

Just had a quick look at Which , they gave Miele silence cylinder vac 5 stars for quietness also AEG cylinder and Bosch professional came out ok . All bagged versions though . The AEG was cheaper and had bigger volume bags .

If you go for a Henry, splash out on the Turbo brush head, then it will deal fine with pet hair. I don't find it quiet, though.

I just saw this thread as I'm looking for a quiet vacuum cleaner to replace my loud Henry. I'm probably going to buy the Miele one.:)

If you really want quiet then get a ducted vacuuming system installed. They are very quiet.
