How to get a cheap wedding or get more wedding for your money!

Options
Hi all,

Do you want a cheaper wedding? Do you want to get more wedding for your money? Please can you give me some feedback of what you would like as I am doing some research for a new company to promote discounted weddings - kind of a cross between Groupon and voucher codes. Similar to white weeding pages. I am starting in sunny Scotland and would love to hear feedback of what your most expensive items are and what you are struggling to find and what you would like to see - would you prefer whole wedding packages on the site or items?

Please make any suggestions :) thank in advance

I like the idea of packages (with options to adapt for your needs) because it gives brides a chance to see what they can get for their money for a total price - if that makes any sense!

I'll tell you what I think would go down really well, and thats a collaboration between loads of local bridal suppliers to provide a truly all inclusive wedding package...everything from venue and catering down to dress (maybe an allowance with local bridal shop?) and suit hire for one price. Even if the package didn't appeal to everyone I think it would be a good way to get publicity (I can imagine even a national paper like the daily mail running it online if you can write a good press release, local media certainly would) and provide an example of what you could offer. Sorry to reply again, I was just thinking about it.

Hey, yeh that would be a great idea! I was already toying with a mix and match package before speaking with anyone but the fact you have brought it up without prompting is great, as it shows I'm not alone. Please don't worry about the delay at the moment you are the only one that has helped with some feedback so I'm more than happy to listen to any opinions you have :)

Great, wish there was something like that in my area :)
If you haven't already, I would strongly recommend joining a local facebook group for brides to be and poaching their opinions openly as you have done here - also read through everything they are talking about and struggling with for ideas of local needs. There was a lady in cambridgeshire who changed the direction her business was moving in as a result - she had initially offered just chair covers/centerpiece hire and other venue decoration and then as a result of feedback branched out into wedding dresses and started offering "bride and venue decoration" both individually and in packages. She positioned herself on the budget end to appeal to brides who may have been considering a cheap chinese-made ebay wedding dress. The dresses are imported from China via a uk based bricks and mortar shop but the difference is that brides get to see and try on a couple of sample dresses first, see the quality, get measured up and have a physical place to go back to for a refund if they are not happy, and no worries about things like import tax because you/your supplier would pay that and incorporate it into the price. Each dress is £250-£350. I have the name of the supplier that the lady has worked in collaboration with if you would like to PM me.

I should point out that I am not affiliated with any of these people apart from as a fascinated witness to the workings of the wedding industry and a bride-to-be :P

Using local business is great, especially for cheaper items. They can be difficult to track down - I've found much more bargains visiting community hall craft fayres as opposed to shopping centre fayres. That may be a good starting point for local craftspeople.

Having a beauty and hair package at a sensible price preferably in one location. I was let down by my booked beauty, so spent a day calling around to get it sorted out... Most people never returned the calls and as soon as I mentioned wedding the price went up. I have managed to book the beauty, spray tans and then hair seperatley and have spoken to all 3 therapist which has made me more relaxed about it...

Biggest worry for me is being let down on the day.. so having this assurance from the beauty, hair and photographer, food is essential....

That sounds like a great idea, I have just started my new business and although it isn't exclusively for weddings I think that possibly 70% will be in the future, I have included many local crafts people, artisan food producers, caterers and niche service providers on my links page (the business is primarily vintage orientated) I think I offer very good value for money and I would be very happy to partake in something like this here in South London, good luck with it!
