Poor credit history mortgage

Hi all,
7 months after losing my precious husband to cancer, I want to move house. My house is on the market, @£230k and I've found a cottage for £219k but the owner will accept a lower offer of 210k. I have a £9600 mortgage with nationwide, and I'm allowing 10k to move, which will be covered by the profit on my sale, but devastated to learn today that Nationwide are being arsey about porting the mortgage to the new property. I sadly defaulted on Cc's 5 years ago, but my parents gave my money to pay the lot off which I did. I've built my credit score up to 908 which is good, and I've no other credit other than my mortgage and mobile phone. I want to keep the mortgage because I'd like to use the remaining profit to do some renovations. Has anyone else had problems, and do you know the best poor credit mortgage company?
I would be grateful for any advice :)

Maximum Debt £33k in 2007  all on CC's (I know, lesson learned; never consolidate and not cut up the cards!)
Now completely debt free, but it was a double edged sword :(

You only have a mortgage balance of £9,600. Too small to warrant the trouble. Might as well pay it off.

What do you mean by "being arsey"? Have they declined the porting?

But yep totally agree with Thrugelmir

Nationwide are entitled to review whether they want to port the mortgage in your case. Rather than 'getting arsy' they are making a business decision to protect their members interests.

Other lenders will have minimum lending limits too high for what you are considering.

Cut your budget, and move without a mortgage.

  • i have never ever missed a mortgage payment, but i dont understand what the risk would be, the house equity if still over £200k, there is no more risk on this property than my current home.
Thankfully i think i may have found a buyer for mine, whos offered the market value. I have a few thousand in savings with Nationwide too. They can see i am no longer a 'risk'. Odd decision by Nationwide i think.
