Switching Fee??

Hi - just a quick question. I'm thinking about switching my mortgage with my current mortgage provider (A&L). I'm currently on a discounted rate mortgage that has no tie ins. I'm wanting to switch to their no fee fixed rate mortgage for 2 years. When I've spoken to them they've mentioned a £250 switching fee!
Has anybody else encountered this? I didn't have to pay a switching fee last time I changed mortgage type with them.... it just seems that they want to charge for anything nowerdays!!
Is this right?
