Hello All,
I am taking on a job this summer and the employer offered me an annual salary of £18,500. Due to child care I requested 37 hour week instead of 40. The have calculated my wages and given me an hourly rate of 8.89. They have worked it out as 18500/52 (weeks)=355.77/40 hours (as they say it is unfair to other workers to divide mine by 37 hours. They say I will clock in and clock out so will be paid depending on how many hours I work. I don't mind this but want to know if that hourly rate is right please?

That seems right to me. If you work 37 hours a week at that rate you will earn 37/40 of the annual salary for 37/40 of the work. You need to check that they pay you the equivalent of 37 hours a week for holidays too.0

Yeah they divided by 40 as that's the regular working week to get the hourly rate but then since you are only going to do 37 you get the 40 hour salary pro rata which is as I have posted above here.Hello All,

£18500/52 weeks/40 hours = £8.89ph.
You will earn 37hours x £8.89 x 52 weeks = £17104.36 per annum."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
