Hi was wondering if anyone knows if a claim can be made for PPI when took out Mortgage. We have had our mortgage 11 years with the Halifax and when we were sold it we "had to have their payment/critical illness protection" or would not qualify for the mortgage. Cant seem to find any info if this is wrong or can make a claim. Thanks for any help or feedback.

If it was mis-sold yes, if not no.We have had our mortgage 11 years with the Halifax and when we were sold it we "had to have their payment/critical illness protection" or would not qualify for the mortgage.
Critical illness cover is not PPI.Cant seem to find any info if this is wrong or can make a claim. Thanks for any help or feedback.
There were some deals in the late 90s to early 2000s that required an insurance purchase to obtain the special interest rate deal. That is allowed. The PPi issue is when you are told that and it ISNT a requirement.
However, it is also the weakest complaint of the PPI complaints reasons as even if it was said to you and was a lie, you have no way to prove it and you can bet your life they have nothing on file to support it. In which case, the complaint would then look at the suitability of the product sold (which may not even be PPI in your case). Is the product suitable for your financial needs? (most mortgage insurance complaints are rejected as it is considered normal to have insurance with mortgage - its suitability of the product that is generally the area of focus on mortgage insurances)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
