Does anyone have any experience of using a Philips Sonicare AirFloss? If so, is it better than flossing? Are they worth shelling out for?

I got one as a freebie at the recent BDA conference. ... personally I am not impressed. The rep said it was not as good as floss but better than nothing ... in which case why not just floss? No comparison cost wise. It lacks any real power and when you hold it too close to your teeth it stutters and doesnt really force the water/mouthwash between the contacts too well in my humble opinion0

"Why not just floss?" Mainly because there are people who cannot / will not floss, use tepes etc.
I recommend the airflosser to my patients AFTER I have tried to get them to use everything else, including proper demonstration (My wife is a hygienist and would kill me if all I did was sit in my ivory tower and say to patient, "Go away and floss"
Although to be honest I find the cost of the airflosser a great motivator for folk to go back to learning how to use a tepe brush :rotfl:
Plus useful for folk with reduced dexterity in their hands, Arthritis etc0 -
Good point! :-) mine Was worth the money as I didn't pay for it. The old plug in water pick had more oomph to it though I think0

I bought one in february this year off amazon...worked very well until 14 days ago. does not shoot water anymore.
requested a RMA/Refund from the seller on amazon and I was told that they were not responsible at all and that I needed to speak directly with philips to organize repair - philips are completely unresponsive and the retailer are dodging their responsibility to replace a faulty device.0 -
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I'll be sticking with dental floss tape.0
