Finding Local Shops

I'm trying to find good local alternatives to supermarket shopping. Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread and see if people can recommend local shops / farm shops / farmers markets / box schemes etc. I would like to find shops which sell local produce, preferably organic, not more expensive than supermarket (hopefully 4p per £ cheaper than Mr T's to make up for Clubcard deals), with details about where stuff comes from and staff who are freindly and helpful and know what they are talking about. Don't ask for much, do I?!!!:rotfl:
Maybe we could have seperate threads for different counties so we can keep and eye on just local counties rather than having to read through the whole thread.
I'll start with Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire:
There is a food hall at Dobbies Garden Centre (Fenny Stratford) which I thought would be great but I haven't found ANY local produce here.
Nearby there is Hunters Farm Shop but there seemed to be lots of imported fruit & veg here, not really too much info about local stuff. Although I haven't been for a while.
At Frosts Garden Centre (Woburn Sands) ther is a small fruit & veg shop who also sell frozen fruit, pastries, roast potatoes etc. as well as local eggs. Again there seemed to be lots of imported stuff and they get their stock from covent garden market apparently.
I have just found the MSE website and I really love it!

Hi jlwhite,
Welcome to MSE and especially the Old Style board. :hello:
We do have regional boards which are the best place to start local threads, have a look here: Local MoneySaving
On the England board there is a long running thread that will probably interest you:
The Milton Keynes Money Savers Thread - Mark 3
Another good source for organic supplies and shops near you is to type your postcode or town into: www.bigbarn.co.uk
I hope this helps.
