expired comps

as a newbie I am periodically catching up with back pages in competition time and have spotted some expired comps on p222 but don't know whether to press expired button? I don't want to get involved in all this bumping shenanigans or is pressing expire not bumping? thanks:)

  • Hi, pressing expired isn't bumping, it doesn't move the post from where it is unless several people have pressed expired, then it will whizz across to Game Over.

Please do press expired on the old comps, any with a guessed end date though could you check first before expiring, thanks :)
  • oh thank goodness I can contribute in some small way for all the comps that are posted. with all the recent threads about newbies and using the forum rightly or wrongly I am just covering all bases before I press any buttons lol, but thanks for your reply

    Hi,welcome to MSE comps & good luck:D

Nothing to fear re a valid bump as posted on a few threads:

I can't see any problem with someone posting on a thread with what they feel is a valid contribution to the competition details :)

posting 'please don't bump threads' just bumps them again, although sometimes BGs do this to a newbie posting 'thanks for the comp' on lots of threads :)

out of the thousands of comps that get posted every week it doesn't really happen that much so maybe the best thing to do if you notice someone doing it regularly is pm a BG who could then point out the forum etiquette politely to people who are not aware :) if someone has made a one off comment on one comp just move on and it will float down the board again nicely :D

Please be nice to all MoneySavers.

    Hi everyone

Remember comping's fun. Let's just enjoy doing it and helping each other. If doing that means posting to add extra info about a competition, that's fine, that's what the board's about and there's no need for it to become a source of problems or a reason to "tell people off".

I'm going to close this thread now so everyone can get on with comping.

    Andrea :)
  • :)many thanks all, when I spot them I'll expire them with confidence! once again thanks to all the posters out there what a great hobby and great forum to be part of.
  • ooh so replying to a comment has 'bumped it to the top of the list. ggrrr.... perhaps I should just tick thanks should I or are return comments valid in the chat corner? I'm not clueless just want to get it right!

People only have an issue with "bumped" threads on the main forum (competition time.)

You can "bump"/chat (whatever) all you like in here (compers chat.)

Ahh okay maybe this is why I just had a PM, should I not be bumping expired comps to get others to click expired too? I saw others doing so on several occasions and thought that was what we were meant to do?

Hi,Stray Cat.I have no idea who has sent you a pm but many do as you have done & it is virtually an accepted practice on here.Posting re the expired thread encourages others to click the expired button ,so speeding up the threads removal from the main board.
Continue to do as you have if you so wish.
    Cheers.
