that might be what the stores lead you to believe but i assure you it is NOT the case and tesco has a company wide policy on this, there are lots of people on other sites having the same issues and upon contacting customer services on the phone (not instore cs) they have been told that the store cannot do this,

below is most recent from Tesco cs

The store hasn't led me to believe anything, I called them and was told that although they have a policy in place it is up to the managers discretion.

I assume you work in the profession so maybe you can shed light on what I should be saying to them?

sorry that line wasn't directed at you was a general statement, ie don't let the store manager dictate company policy,

yes it is upto the manager to a degree, ie you wouldn't expect them to take a hand drawn voucher for £500 off a tv, but this does not give them the right to say no vouchers at all, most say they will only take the safecoupon.co.uk ones. it seems to be a few isolated stores that are saying no, i dont know if its because of abuse or what, but as long as the voucher is real then they loose nothing by accepting them, ive use a few of these caffe ones in various tescos around my area, keep a couple in the glove box incase im out and a bout and pass a tesco lol. never had a issue in over 10 stores so far,

as far as cs on the phone saying tough i don't know what to say really as they should be sticking to policy, other than laying it on thick about being embarrassed or felt like you was being accused of wrong doing not alot you can say at the end of the day, most people have had bad experiences tho with staff accusing them of all sorts and being rude/nasty,

worth a phone call tho, as they should be accepting vouchers,
or have a post facebook.com/tesco loads complaining there

    sorry rant over.

phone headoffice customer services guys and tell them you have had vouchers refused and were made to feel bad in store, they will send you money off vouchers because store is not supposed to do that

To be fair the staff were quite helpful and discreet so I wouldn't want to get them in any trouble. Its a bit of a shame but the coupon did look like I had made it up on MS paint after it had been through my printer :o

if they say its because they dont scan, thats because they wont, because they are free coupons not money off ones the value of each voucher has to be entered manually as different stores have different prices,
For a general/any supermarket coupon , the barcode on the voucher will normally determine the exact process.
    Characters 10 , 11 & 12 determine the value ( i.e. 250 represents £2.50 ,100 represents £1.00 etc) which the till should automatically deduct
If they are 000 then the voucher is "variable value" and cashier should have to manually enter its value.

For a voucher created by a chain for use purely within their own stores, the value will be controlled differently

This coupon refuses to print for me.
Despite emailing them a million times.
If I beg them enough, you reckon they will offer to send me it through the post? :o;)

You'd be surprised how smart some checkout operators can be, don't underestimate them :p

Seriously though, I used to work on a checkout for a number of years, the amount of barcodes you see on items and vouchers day in day out, it doesn't take long (or take a genius) to figure out how and where prices are shown within barcodes... Don't underestimate the intelligence or keen eye of a checkout operator ;)

Lol it was a lighthearted joke I ment no offence, down my area they not so smart, or more to the point they don't care, I've know for years how barcodes are made up but I like to know how things work lol,

Plus if you start telling them you know how to make the barcodes read anywhere you want to they might not like taking your vouchers afterwards lol

well the barcode bit is a bit techy for lots of people,,, but in my Tescos today I think they need ENGLISH lessons....kept saying we cannot accept the coupon because its for £1.50 and the coffee is only £1.29, so I said its ok I dont want any change, then another one comes along and says the same and a 3rd...just gave up and went to CS who did it for me and dd with no questions... I even told her the staff needed some ENGLISH lessons cos they cannot understand wat it says on the voucher!! and she even said some of them are so stupid!!! :)
