problems calculating pay on new job-help!!!

    I agree that the full-time rate (£15,648.08) divided by 52 (weeks in year) divided by 37 (full-time weekly hours) is a fraction of a penny over £8.13. (Of course a year is just over 52 weeks.)

    What you have been paid for May is a fraction of a penny over £5.68.

    I think it's been incorrectly calculated.

    The 31 days per month should not have been used, as it has resulted in you being paid for approx 1/6 of the month, instead of approx 1/4. Likewise using 365 days per year should not have been used, no one works 365 days, infact, excluding holidays and sickness, you will work 156 days per year, or on average 13 days per month.

    If your annual salary is £6343.84, then your monthly calendar pay should be £528.65, or approx £8.13 per hour.

    For the first month that you worked you should've got 1 weeks pay, or 15 hours, or 3/13 of your monthly pay. Each of these calculate at £121.95.

    The figure you were paid represents approx 10 hours work, unless they use a different method of calculating, which could maybe correct itself in next months pay.

    i assume that the 3 days you worked are you normal fixed scheduled days?

    It is only a muddle for this particular month - and whenever you leave. Sometimes this way of calculating partial months works out to the employee's advantage, sometimes to the employer's - and it is easy for HR which will be why it is used. Actually, it will more often work out to the employer's advantage as people tend to start full time jobs on Mondays after a weekend off and leave on Fridays. That digression aside, as you were promised a 'pro rata' salary, rather than an hourly one, the legal minimum wage issue is probably the issue to query, if you want to.

    All monthly salaries work out as a slightly variable hourly wage, when you are paid the same for February as March, but probably worked fewer hours in the shorter month, for instance.

    Yeah the 3 days I worked were scheduled days.

    I have queried it with the payroll dept so now waiting on reply. I have asked how it was calculated and also asked about minimum wage.

    Thanks for everyone's help on here so far, its been great :j:beer:
