My vet quoted between £95-130 depending on what needed to be done and if teeth had to be removed. Since none did it was £95.0

I'm sure having a predominantly dry food diet for most of their lives (only had regular wet food during the past few years) has kept my 23yr and 24yr old cats' teeth in good shape. It's only during the last year that I've noticed a slight build up of calculus but no sign of periodontal disease. They've never had any dental work done, ever.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

I heard dentals were not covered under pet insurance because they are considered "preventable"Lauren :hello:

Hi getting ready,
My 8 year old girl has just had her teeth scaled and polished and she was fine afterwards, if a little grumpy at having had to go to the vets. She was anesthetised (sp??) as was another of my cats when he had to have some teeth out when he was 8years old (6 or so years ago now) and he had a heart murmur but came round fine.
I guess the risk of having an anesthetic in cats is similar to in humans, occasionally someone will have an adverse reaction. Don't worry about it.
Glad you are insured for dental work...the scary part is the cost0 -
needs to have his teeth cleaned while under gereral anaesthetic but a friend keeps saying it's not needed as vets just say it needs to be done to make money.
I've looked online and read this thread and in myself I'm sure it needs to be done as basically a cat can't clean it's own teeth...
I guess I just need someone to say yes it needs to be done and if possible give me a link that it's from yahoo answers or a vet's website for me to show my friend...
I guess I'm also panicking a bit over taking Buddy to the vet for the day and having him put under gereral anaesthetic. It took me over a year to take him to the vet after I first got him just for microchipping and a check up :embarasse as I was so scared...0 -

Melli,
link here (I hope) to my vets dental page. My two really senior cats both suffer from gingivitis, one has bad breath and the other one has lost most of his teeth now.
Worth doing in my opinion.0
