Newbie confused comper needing help.

Hi all, please be patient.

I've entered a few comps on here, but I can't seem to work how to do it systematically. I keep hitting "next thread" at the bottom of each comp, and coming up against a comp I've already seen/done :o

Comments

  • if its not a dupe post , as people make new competition posts the other posts will move down and eventually move to the next thread/page.
could be new posts are being made continuously and by the time you go to page two they have moved down to page 2 already, resulting in you seeing them again.

I tend to just sart on a page & work down the threads clicking on any that catch my eye,
I then enter the comp, click thanks & the green tick & return to the main page. Then carry on.

Others comp by end date or via certain dates.
I have never used the next thread funtion that you mention as I would not know if I wanted to enter via that thread eg I would not enter via Twitter.

Hi and welcome. I do think it is a bit overwhelming at first. Have you peeked at the guide:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1014121

I found this very helpful, although to be honest, I also think that you just have to persevere until you kind've feel your way around the board and work out which system suits you best.

Always come back here to ask any questions though.

    Good luck

    Getting Started (I)

2 Why can't I search for comps that are ending on a certain date?

2 Why can’t I search for comps that are ending on a certain date?
Unfortunately, the forum software isn’t specifically designed with comps in mind, it is only a small part of MSE. This means that certain functionality which we would dearly love to have simply isn’t available.

You can change the Forum thread order to sort posts by end date. Simply go to the bottom of any Forum page & on the left hand side is ‘Display Options’. Click on the ‘Sorted By’ dropdown & then select Thread Title. All 200 odd pages are now listed in Thread Title order.

Each thread will now be listed by the ending date used in the thread title. This means that the threads which end on a particular date will be grouped together - you will just need to find out which page they start from & then you are ready to enter comps for a particular end date.

    Display_Options3.jpg

WARNING: If you are entering comps on the day or even the day before they end you run the risk that perhaps the comp has closed a little early & your entry won't be counted. Another thing to bear in mind is that the Board Guides volunteer hours of their time to keep these boards clear & running smoothly so sometimes comps which are ending today or perhaps tomorrow (in rare cases) may be moved to Game Over a little early - this is a task which has to fit around their real lives & also when they have some spare 'online' time.

SUGGESTION: If you really want to only enter comps right when they are ending then I strongly suggest you get a couple of days ahead of yourself to avoid the above. :)

Another method you can use for finding comps that end on a particular day is to do a couple of searches using Google or another search engine using each of the following:

    "E:01/09" site:moneysavingexpert.com

    "E:1/09" site:moneysavingexpert.com

This method will find the comps for the dates you have selected whether they are in Competitions Time Forum, or even the Game Over & Regular Competitions sub forums.

Please note, this is a good way to find comps that end on the date searched, Please be aware though, that it will bring up all comps including those that ended in previous years!

    Hi mandylou1968
Welcome to comping and the world of never ever sleeping again
I select 'newest' and work my way down and always 'thank' a comp that I've entered. That way I (hopefully) don't miss any and I can keep track of what I've entered.
Oh, and one other thing, it's the law that anyone who wins a Man City prize must send it to me :rotfl:
    Good luck with the comping
