I dread the post everyday..

I know it's not a good idea to hide my debt from family but I am sorting myself out and want to do it off my own back plus it would start WW3 i think. My problem is I dread the post everyday, does anyone know can I get post sent somewhere to collect? or ask creditors to only contact me by phone or e-mail.

I too used to dread the post and I live on my own and have no dependents and husband to worry about! You have my sympathy.

I'm not sure that you can get it redirected... maybe get a PO BOX?

Maybe this is the time to tell the family and come clean instead of hiding more stuff...

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

Hi there miss frankie, i really sympathise with you, re the post. I know that you can get any post sent to you redirected as though you've moved house. Do you have a trusted friend that will take your post instead for you? I think they only do it for a max of 6 months and there is a fee to pay for it. Alternatively a po box is a possibility but your creditors may well ask for a fixed address of where you're living and continue to write to you there.
You could ask them to not write to you but being the A$$es some creditors are i doubt they would take your wishes into account!

I hid my debt from my family for years and i mean years. but eventually, when they see you wearing the same clothes and never getting anything new, even when on a good salary, and not taking holidays etc they figure it out. Try sounding your family out with regards to debt, just casually during a relevant tv program or something, you may get an idea if by telling them you'd get their support or disdain, i'm sure you'll find it's the former.
I hope it all works out for you and if there's anything we can do to help you know where we all are.
    Kind wishes

Ask Royal Mail to hold it for you at the local sorting office for you to collect.

Why do you dread the mail? Is it because of the volume and your folks might see it or is it because you are scared of whats inside it?

I also dread the post, just in case any of my creditors have decided to make life difficult, but I'd rather face the post than phone calls.
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

Who is the family you are hiding this from? Parents or partner?

I have lived with my husband since 1995 and only told him about my debt 2 months ago. My parents haven't got a clue about my debt and they will not know until it is paid ... at which point I will proudly announce to them my achievement ;) ... but I do not live with them and so they do not need to know.

I used to be scared of the post too - didn't want Mr OneDay finding out. I also didn't want to know what it said (head in sand syndrome), so once safely retrieved, the post would then be stuffed unopened in a drawer. Phone calls were even worse - had one from MBNA once because a DD payment for my loan was refused. Fortunately we were out and it went to he answering machine. Mr OneDay asked what it was about ... I said (lying) - I have no idea, I don't have anything with MBNA! (he did not know about the loan). Of course, I always raced to answer the phone after that. Suspicious? I think so.

Telling Mr OneDay was the scariest thing I have ever done. But it was also the best thing. I am no longer scared of the post or the phone and Mr OneDay is wonderfully supportive. You may find that your family are more supportive than you think ... often the thought of them finding out is much worse than the reality.

    Take care ...

Thanks guys for the above advice. I checked with Royal Mail and I can do something they call mail collect so I will arrange this tomorrow. I have managed to get some money together and I’m offering my creditors full and final payments so hopefully I can resolve my debt without my family finding out if not I am going to tell them as I can’t carry on lying.
