Re-applying after interview?

I had an interview for a job I'd love last week only to get the generic sorry you haven't been successful e-mail:(. It was a group interview with four others. Some other candidates didn't show! No feedback but I suspect they thought I was overqualified?
Now they have re-advertised the position, is it worth reapplying? If so how should I go about it. E-mail the manager directly restating my interest? Formally apply again via website? Both? I know they need someone asap as replacing someone who left, the day of the interview was their last day. I can only imagine the person they chose didn't work out for some reason. I know having rejected me once there is little hope but all I can do is try? Any advice welcome, thanks.

You have nothing to lose. I would ring up and ask them why exactly they rejected you in the first place. If they thought you suitable they would have rang you back rather than waste money readvertising. I guess there's no harm in trying though.0

yes email away, think what you would think of someone doing this if you were the boss! you probably would be really impressed someone wanted to work for you so bad, I would try and bypass the correct channels this time as you may get the same result, ring them up, or write them a letter.
I did a similar thing years ago, failed the interview, reapplied, the interviewer remembered me and was impressed I tried again...I got the job.0 -
Honestly? If they offered the job to someone else and it didn't work out, if they thought you were suitable and they need someone quickly, they'd have been back on to you themselves.
I would suggest rather than reapplying, ask them for feedback on your interview. It may give you some pointers for the future, and you might then be able to use it as an in to remind them you're still interested and out there. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Something similar has happened to me in the past.
Job advertised, I was shortlisted, interviewed, didn't get the job.
Three months later the job was readvertised, (but I hadn't seen the advert until the closing date, so I didn't have time to contact them to ask if I should apply or not), so I just reapplied (thought that it was a very long shot, but also that I had nothing to loose!), got shortlisted again, reinterviewed (same panel and they remembered me!), but this time I got offered the job!
Nothing ventured, nothing gained...if the reason that you didn't get the job last time was because they thought that you were overqualified, then by applying again should indicate to them that you are serious about the job.
Good luck if you decide to apply.0 -
Re-apply, what have you got to lose and what can they do.. nada! although hate to say it did the job really exist or check advert is current?
Don't get me wrong I've had some good experiences of 'turn rounds' (it can happen) though no doubt some jobs that re-advertised couple of days later, well not as it seems and you have to ask why?0 -
IF that did happen the company are a bad judge.Honestly? If they offered the job to someone else and it didn't work out, if they thought you were suitable and they need someone quickly, they'd have been back on to you themselves.

Having said that Id not work for a company who turned me down at interview stage
OP - I'd call them and say I was still keen on the role and if there was any feedback or reason why you could not re apply. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I would email for feedback. At least that will remind them that you are still available and keen.0

My experience is that jobs are often re-advertise when they haven't found a suitable candidate first round.
I would say replying depends on the reasons you suspect you didn't get through first time round. If it is because you think you didn't interview well and can do a better job this time, but have all the qualification and experience requested, I would apply again and explain the above.
If however they are asking for some experience that you don't really have, I wouldn't bother.0 -
I would phone and ask for interview feedback. If they think you are overqualified you can use the opportunity to ask if its worth applying again and stress how much you want to work with them.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

There is certainly no harm in contacting them and stating you are really interested in the role etc, - However some companies have a 6 month period between applications before they will re-consider you.
Just on your point of 'over qualified' i really don't think that train of thought exists anymore - In the current climate 75% of people i interview are technically over qualified for the role they are applying for however are taking whatever they can get to get back into the workplace.0
