I hadn't thought of speaking to the underwriters tbh. The dla/carer's does not pay for our mortgage, my husband's income more than covers the payments but when we took out our original mortgage 10 years ago we only had our eldest child & my income from earnings was higher. We now have another 2 children (1 severely disabled) so I now only work part-time. Hope this all makes sense :(

It does, I sympathise with you. I don't think it will hurt to try and contact them. It's not all just computerised, there is someone at the other end making the decision. I think it should be an Informed one :)

You don't get to speak to an underwriter at Nationwide. The call centre staff deal with application queries and email work requests to the new business team.

I once had an underwriter's email address for a specific issues but can't use it unless the case I need help with is held by that particular individual.

Thanks for that info. Would you recommend that I try to speak to someone to explain our situation or just submit my bank statements and hope for the best? I will be going to my bank tomorrow to pay off my overdraft although I'm presuming this probably won't make a lot of difference now.

There's not much you can say to explain your use of an overdraft, unless you have specific issues which have a defined time limit. If it's just normal usage, let them look at them and see if they want/need anything else.

Both myself and my husband have just received a text stating "your mortgage application has been cancelled as requested. please contact us urgently if you wish to resume the application".

Does this mean we have been turned down? I have tried calling them but the mortgage advisor is busy and will hopefully call me back.

    :(:(

Not one we can answer, sorry.

You need to get through to your contact.

  • It doesn't sound good. If it'd affordability decline then the application stops. Although your servicing the existing debt, this new application is based on now. They cannot close the current mortgage but can block or decline this one. TCF all the way from their point of view.

    Hi
Thanks for the responses. I spoke to the advisor and apparently the text was a mistake, it was an internal error because someone had input our name wrong. Our application has not been cancelled but we still don't know whether we can proceed or not.

Would a broker be able to help us if this fails and could anyone recommend one?

Also Simon, apologies for my ignorance but what is TCF? (As you may guess, I am clueless regarding these matters :o)

    TIA
