I'm afraid this is not going to help you if you're after some p.d.q. but I get mine from Lidl/Aldi. They are usually on offer about every 3 or 4 months.
The AA size are 2100 mAh, Ni-Mh and have been £1-99 for a pack of 4 for ages. The AAA size are the same price but I can't recall the capacity.
I usually buy a pack or 2 every other year when they are on offer and keep them in stock until they are required.

Big bundles of 20 or so from Focus, B&B or Halfords near the checkout. Under 20p each for proper alkalines. Alkalines store easily for a year without losing power.

Usually dated 5+ years ahead and are still ok after expiry date if stored in a dry place.

Agree re Aldi / Lidl for Nihm.

SVP online for alkaline, otherwise instore Poundland or Home Bargains.
