Thinning and splitting nails - help!

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations on how to strengthen nails?

My nails are splitting so that the top layer comes off, its literally peeling off the rest of my nail, so they are getting incredibly weak and I'm worrying about them thinning permanently. I've been taking skin hair and nails vits for a few weeks and been using Revlon's strengthening polish to try to get them a bit stronger. So far I haven't really seen a difference and now the top layer seems to be splitting further and further down the nail :(

Has anyone got any tips to make them stronger?

I found the answer to this on this forum some months ago.
    Nailtiques Nail Protein http://www.nailtiques.com
Think I got mine from Beautybay.com. Definitely worked within a few days.
    Good luck

Yep, Nailtiques Formula 2 is your best bet.

OPI Nail Envy Sensitive & Peeling is good as well though.

One coat a day for a week or so, then take it all off and start again. You should see a difference in a couple of weeks.

For strengthening & hardening nails, the best thing by far that I've found is Mavala Scientifique, Penetrating Nail Hardener. It soaks into your nails, and you put polish on top as normal (or not). Just be careful to moisturise your cuticles and the nail bed as they can dry out.

Almond oil massaged into the base of the nail daily for a longer term solution, always wear rubber gloves for housework, and keep hydrated. Good habits like these are a lot more MSE!

Thank you for the suggestions! I'll definitely look into using the almond oil for the long term solution and as luck would have it, I already have some in the house so even more MSE!

Another vote for Mavala here ... Brilliant stuff ! ... It really does work .. It's not cheap and the bottle looks tiny but a little goes a long way .. ( If you have a " savers " chemist near you .... try there ...that's where i get mine .. it's a lot cheaper ..

Splitting nails can be an indication of a vitamin or mineral deficiency, and while you may be taking a multi-vitamin tablet it may not be enough of what is missing.

If you have any other symptoms especially fatigue go to your GP and ask for your iron, B12, vitamin D (you may have to fight for this as it's not standard) and thyroid hormone levels to be checked.
