advice on the 1st mortgag payment

I am a FTB and I have got a mortgage with the Halifax, the completion date for the house is tomorrow but I logged into my internet banking just now and saw that the Halifax had tried to take money out of my account.
I thought you started paying for the mortgage on completion or is it different for each lender?
I will get in touch with Halifax tomorrow morning but I was wandering if anyone could help.

First payment is normally a minimum of two weeks after completion, possibly longer depending on when in the month you complete.I am a mortgage broker.
