    Interesting calculation.
You've paid nearly £200 over the past two years on 'Whatever Happens'. If, instead, you'd saved it, how close would you be to being able to buy a new laptop?

Rather like "unlimited broadband", I'm sure that in "whatever happens", the 'whatever' is defined rather less extensively than most people's understanding of the word...

    What is not included:

    Regularly replaced items/consumable items, including:
    Built-in batteries
    Bulbs and lamps
Cosmetic damage where it does not affect the operation or safety of the product.
Repair costs that have not been approved.
Damage or breakdown due to flood, wind or other severe weather conditions.
Damage or breakdown due to fire, unless caused by an electrical malfunction within the product.
The cost of repairing or replacing a product which fails because anyone neglects, abuses or misuses the product.
The cost of repairing or replacing a product which has been exposed to insect infestation (or similar phenomenon) or human or animal fluid/matter.
Any service or benefit where the Care Plan has been suspended.
Inoperability of a product caused by withdrawal of services by a third party.
    Software or data.
Protection for dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, cooking and laundry products if used for business.
Image retention on plasma, LCD, LED, 3D or rear projection screens.
Theft or any loss suffered if you cannot use the product or any loss other than repair or replacement.
Cost of Data Recovery if unit needs to be sent to specialist laboratory.

so should be covered unless they call it misuse

How can using it in the bathroom not be defined as misuse?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I'd say quoting my scenario would probably get you further than saying it was dropped in whilst having a dump :D

Yeah. They cover it. Didn't have to use lifeforms' scenario, either. Heheh heh

Of course they may cover it if you spilt a glass of water into it while sensibly using it on a table, only a moron would say they dropped it in a bath.

obviously whether this is morally correct is another matter entirely.

There is nothing moral about it. You pay to cover accidental damage including water.

A Moronic action would be dropping it in the bath deliberately to get another one. Or the neighbours who "drop" their laptop down the stairs after hearing someone else accidentally did it and getting a new laptop, but screwing theirs up so much they couldn't even get anything off it, including all their only copy of wedding photos. Oh what a shame. :)

Accidents happen. Frankly anything where the laptop is not in a case protected and is accidentally damaged may be the only scenario some people see as acceptable. So dog knocking it off, the cat pulling out all the keys (had that one happen!) even the kid who manages to smear jam inside it. God knows how many VCR machine owners claimed on insurance due to their kid posting something through.

But it is good to hear that for once Curry doesn't try and get out of their own policies! Good job :D

Is there any small-print on these "whatever happens" policies to prevent regular use ?
ie) My laptop is now 2 years old (again) - time for another accident ?
If not - what is to prevent misuse ?
