Occ health report - does employer usually discuss this with employee?

I was referred for an independent occupational health assessment recently following a few sickness absences last year. It was a bit strange as I haven't had any time off sick in about 6 months now, but obviously I went along with the process. The report (which I saw) went to my employer over a month ago but my manager hasn't mentioned it to me. The report commented a lot on lack of support at work and there were suggested made by the occ health guy.

I've never been through occ health before and so wondering if it's usual for employers to discuss the report with the affected employee or just ignore it? I was going to ask my manager but maybe it's usual for them not to say anything???

Any help would be appreciated.

From the sound of it, it was just a box ticking exercise for your manager as well as yourself.

Is either on the too be filed pile or on the'I'll have a chat with him when I get some free time' pile.

When I've been through similar, a meeting has been called to discuss the Occupational Health Report with my supervisor and line manager and to see if there are any reasonable adjustments to be made etc. So, yes, in my experience a meeting would usually be called to discuss it with the employee... (unless they no longer have concerns about your attendance which seems odd if they only referred you recently?)

Maybe he doesn't feel its an issue if you are no longer having absences? Anywhere I've worked if you had been to occie health a meeting was called for the Manager (or HR) and the person to discuss what if any adjustments/outcomes would be...

Very odd for a company to do this after such a long period with no absences especially as they used an independent Occ Health to see you (This can cost in the region of £200) - So as mentioned above it seems like an expensive box ticking exercise!

Even though you hadn't had any sickness absences for a while, was the reason for your absences something which could be expected to refer? If so, I wonder if it got to the top of the 'must sort out' pile ... or was raised at a higher level than your immediate manager? And if a lack of support is likely to be a contributory factor to future sickness, I'd raise it myself!

When Occ Health have been asked to provide a report where I work, then yes, it is discussed between the employee and the manager / supervisor.

I'm grateful to everyone who's responded and will bring this up at work.

The whole situation is very strange, especially as others have been off more times than me and been off several times this year.

    Thanks again.
