Corn Syrup - American recipe ingredient substitution please

Hi everyone, I've found a recipe from an American recipe site, however it uses Corn Syrup, does anyone know if I could use Golden Syrup instead? or any other suggestions? It is for caramel popcorn by the way, my children are on a pocorn fest at the moment so need inspriation for the half-term!!
