Education grants

Good morning,

I am going back to college in September while still juggling a full time job. I am finding it difficult to look to see what form of grants I would be entitled too.

My highest level of education has been GCSE's, of which I have 11. I currently live by myself and I am 22.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks.

What will you be studying? Are you in receipt of any means tested benefits?

Also, what grades were your GCSEs?

    Thanks for the prompt replies.

I currently receive no benefits at all.

The course I am looking to study is
AAT Level 2 in Accountancy. I have a link but as a 'new user' it has banned me from posting the link to the course. I would then be going on to do the Level 3 Diploma and then into the third year for Level 4.

My GCSE's were all C and above.

    OK.

sadly, as you are already in work and have previous full level 2 quals (>5 x GCSEs A*-C) you cant get either 1st level 2 entitlement or ESF Workplace Learning funding.

If you dont already have a Level 3 qualification, you may be able to get the ESF Workplace Learning for your AAT L3 course due to your age (19-25) depending on the size of your employers (<250 employees).

Best to speak to the college about your options as they should know what they have locally, not all colleges have all funding available you see.

I work for a large employer with way more than 250 employees so that is out of the window.

Does the fact I live alone make any difference at all?

You would be an ideal candidate for an accountancy apprenticeship assuming you are working in that industry.

I am not though, that is the issue. I currently work in sales for EE/Orange/T-Mobile and want to start building my career. With it being such a large company there is absolutely no room for maneuver to work my way to becoming an accountant through the business. I am still having an ongoing battle to get a reasonable adjustment to my shifts to go into education!

The issue with becoming an apprentice is I live alone and I couldn't afford to lose my salary and start at an apprentice's wage, which I believe is in the region of £80-£120 per week.

I also have no experience or a vast amount of knowledge in accountancy at this moment in time.

You don't need to go to college to study AAT - it can be done as home study and to do level 2 you would only be one night a week surely?
