How to find the fee

Please could you kind folk assist this poster, I have cut and pasted it from the DFW main board.

Dont Have The Money To Pay The Fee To Go Bankrupt!

Rather than boring you all with my personal details.........

I will say ive got debts of 40 thousand pounds!!!!!!!!!!

I had been living on credit rather claiming benefits. Using cards n overdraft n loan, playing one against the other. (Ive no car and not been on holidays). Everything eventually spirreling out of control.

Only 2 of my 5 creditors have excepted token monthly offers of payments of 1 pound.

Im not working...... i'm ill....now ive braved the benefits people.........i am supposedly 'living' on 59.15 income support a week.

I Havn't paid enough contributions to clam incapacity benefit.

Been turned down twice for DLA.

I do get my housing benefit n council tax paid............. But i have to top up the rent out of my income support by 55 pounds a month. (Rented House)

Ive sold all my music cds and all but 5 of my dvds.

Ive sold what i can....my freezer, dvd player, A tv, collectable ornaments and plates......etc the list goes on....( i was paid rip off prices from secondhand places!) But was/am desperate. Nothing left to sell now.

All this in order to try n survive.

But im now oweing on the gas n tv licence and getting demands from them.

I cancelled what things i could..........ive lived without a phone and internet since january.........when i finally faced up to my debt situation.

CAB are negotiating with my creditors.........although their original advice was to go bankrupt............. I havn't managed to get the 325 pounds to go bankrupt. The other 150 is waived as im on income suppurt.

Things are bad, and just trying to get by with no money for anything......decent food, buses, leaving the house etc.........is a hell.

And not getting any better.

I only reinstated the internet n phone the other week, so i could have some contact with the world and something to occupy myself with. (I dont know how im going to pay for them).

I see no way out of this situation.

I used to worry endlessly about bailiffs.........but now just day to day living with no money is thing.

I cant even move to a cheaper rented place (where i wouldnt have to pay the rent top up) 'cos i dont have the bond, the money for removal men.....im on income support and have a cat. (Im not getting rid of him......i'll starve first.........and i mean that!)

Its surely madness that you need to pay to go bankrupt!!!!!!!

Help..........

Ok, what about applying for a Crisis Loan from the DWP? You can say you need it for a cooker or something? Anyone, whether on benefits or not can apply but you need to say it's for something/s that's essential and without it, it would cause harm to your wellbeing.

Or you could try a Budgeting Loan which you could say you need to buy furniture with since you had to sell what you had a while back to live?

There is no set financial assistance to help you get the fee up together I'm afraid. I know from experience as I looked everywhere. In the end, I begged and borrowed to scrimp it up together.

I assume you have no spare money left on credit that you could use? If you do, it wouldn't be frowned on to go BR using your credit.

Don't worry about the baliffs, you have nothing they can take have you?

Stop paying everything and anything if you are going BR. Even token payments, you just can't afford it and they'll have to deal with that I'm afraid.

You can include your utility bill arrears in the BR proceedings so if they mount up, tough. If you plain can't afford it, you can't afford it but if you DO have the money, try and keep up with the basics like utilities first and foremost.

It is crazy that you can't afford to pay your debts or survive in some cases but they plonk a huge fee infront of you for trying to get out of that situation.

I feel so badly for you, please come and post here, you are amongst friends and people who've been there and done it and survived - as you will.

Maybe this will be of some help to you, it's the Severn Trent Trust Fund.

"In exceptional cases the Trustees will consider making a grant available to pay Bankruptcy fees. However applications will only be considered if they are completed with the help of a money advisor, experienced in Bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy is a serious step to take and you may be sent information on Bankruptcy and an additional form that must be completed in full with your money advisor. You should be able to show that your circumstances have so changed that you can no longer afford to pay what you owe."

I too have read that some of the utility companies can give grants to cover the costs of bankruptcy. I'm sure that is good news for someone in the position of ebsay2000 and I hope he/she gets the help he/she deserves.
I find myself a little intrigued as to why the same companies who can be such b*ggers to their creditors, when they encounter financial difficulties, can, at the same time, offer this financial 'lifeline'.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I wonder if there's tax relief on the money offered, or some sort of tax incentive to have the grant fund in place. It's still good that they offer it though, as some people wouldn't be able to go BR without it.

Totally agree, and I'm glad that this option exists - it certainly shows that there are two sides to every coin.

It would be interesting to now how many actually receive their BR fee funding this way too.
