The article says nothing at all about record numbers of FTB's having to rely on parents.

    From the article....

    218000 FTB's in 2012 - 64% had help = 139,520
    359900 FTB's in 2007 - 30/ 40% had help = 109970/ 143960

i.e. more or less the same number got help in 2007 as today.

LOL, you will go to any length to disagree!

The proportion's gone up because, obviously, deposit requirements are less of a problem for those getting help so they're still buying.

Sometimes important to look not only what is being said but what it means.

Amazing how the truth makes Dev's assertions look so silly so very often.....

    Indeed.

So if so few can buy that there are only 20,000 first time buyers, and 98% of them need help.....it must be even more affordable, as only 19,600 needed help, whereas today 139,000 need help.

Wonderful world some of you live in!

Its not in the numbers who are getting help, its in the numbers of those who are managing without help.

So in 2007 249930/215940 managed it without help.

So in 2012 only 78480 managed it without help. so that is only 31%/36% of what it use to be can afford without help.

You can thank me for unravelling that yawn you just tried to spin.

    Yer

The article was pointing out the increase from 30-40% getting help, to 64% getting help. Was also point out that second steppers are now having to turn to help from parents.

The news isn't that "FTBs get parental help", but thats a great way to ignore the message.

Maybe babyboomer parents are especially kind ;)

Well, apparently, baby boomers don't have this type of money.

Check one of our threads out on the subject of babyboomers and wealth....they have none! ;)

Does not compute? I don't think I have read a more illogical statement icon9.gif

The first thing my dad said after I mentioned in passing on the phone that we were looking to buy a house, before hearing any other detail was, "I can't help you with it."

Yeah don't worry, you've never helped with anything else, I don't expect you to start now (is what I wish I'd said but didn't).

No help at all and bought in December at 21, saving up for next place(moving up after 4 or 5 years) and got more saved since we bought, than we put down in deposit so could afford to buy again after 5 months saving after buying :) Oh and my dad owes me the best part of 3 grand. So cant tar everyone with same brush.
